Have six "small meals" a day, approximately 2-3 hours apart from each other. By
eating at regular intervals throughout the day, you can keep your metabolism* elevated and energy levels stable.
(Remember to take your medications and vitamins regularly.)
- Total calories should be between, 800-900 calories daily. Do not exceed 900 calories! That is equal to 133-150 calories per meal (six times a day remember!)
- Total carbohydrates are not to exceed 132 grams daily.
That is a 22 grams per meal, MAXIMUM!
- Total protein intake is from, 72 to 90 grams daily. That is equal to 12-15 grams per meal.
- The fat allowance is from,18-27 grams per day. Do not exceed 27 grams daily!
- Aim for ten, 8 ounce glasses of water daily.
That means, the more you move around, the more that you'll need to drink. One of the
first things you should do when getting up in the morning is to drink a glass of water. If you are afraid
of water retention, drink more not less. Retaining water is a way our body protects itself from dehydration.
Our bodies are made up of 60-70% water and we loose water not only when we perspire, but when we breathe
as well.
Just in case you won't be carrying measuring cups with you all the time, here are a
couple of things you can relate portion sizes to.
| 1 oz. of meat = matchbox |
3 oz. of meat = deck of cards |
| 1 medium fruit = tennis ball |
1 cup of fruit = baseball |
| 1 oz. of cheese = 1 domino |
1 cup of broccoli = light bulb |
